
Jazmine Sullivan is a native of and brought up from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam is Jazmine's mom, and is an ex-backup singer from Philadelphia International Records. When she was five her father was appointed as the curator of the Strawberry Mansion Section. Her family moved later into this old property. The 2005 graduate from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was an instructor of vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the contralto section of the children's choir, then shortly after, in the adult group. Sullivan experienced only a small amount of secular music. She recalls that she was 11 when someone was requesting her to sing for solos at the church. However, she was not enough yet to be ready. "Then the time came that McDonald's offered a competition to children in cities of the world I was invited to perform 'Accept what God Gives' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". She was just 13 when she sang with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan At the age of 15, was first signed to Jive Records. The label recorded her an entire album, but the album wasn't released. Sullivan was eventually eliminated at the hands of the company. She had a good working relations with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her such as "Backstabbers" the track that was produced by Timbaland.
